What Is Reiki?
Reiki is a sacred energy healing practice that works on a spiritual, emotional, and energetic level to restore harmony within the body and mind. Rooted in ancient Japanese tradition, Reiki invites deep relaxation, inner awareness, and a return to balance.
The word Reiki is made up of two Japanese words:
- Rei – universal or higher wisdom
- Ki – life force energy
Together, Reiki means “universal life energy”—the vital energy that flows through all living beings.
The Flow of Universal Life Energy
When life energy flows freely, we tend to feel calm, grounded, and connected. Stress, emotional wounds, trauma, and daily overwhelm can disrupt this flow, leaving us feeling depleted, anxious, or disconnected from ourselves.
Reiki gently supports the body by inviting universal life energy to move where it is most needed, helping to dissolve energetic blockages and restore natural balance. Rather than forcing change, Reiki allows the body and spirit to realign in their own time.
Reiki and the Chakras
Reiki works closely with the chakra system, the seven main energy centers that run along the spine. Each chakra holds influence over different emotional, physical, and spiritual aspects of our being.
When chakras are balanced, energy flows smoothly and we experience greater clarity, peace, and vitality. When they are blocked or overactive, we may feel emotional heaviness, physical tension, or spiritual disconnection.
Reiki helps cleanse, open, and harmonize the chakras, encouraging alignment between body, mind, and spirit.
What to Expect During a Reiki Session
A Reiki session is a quiet, meditative experience. You remain fully clothed while resting comfortably as the practitioner places their hands lightly on or just above the body.
Many clients experience sensations of warmth, tingling, emotional release, or a deep sense of peace. Others simply drift into a state of profound rest. Each experience is unique, guided by what your energy needs in the moment.
The Spiritual Benefits of Reiki
Reiki is often sought for:
- Emotional healing and energetic release
- Stress reduction and nervous system calming
- Spiritual grounding and clarity
- Enhanced self-awareness and intuition
- A sense of peace, wholeness, and renewal
Reiki is not meant to replace medical care, but to support healing on a deeper, energetic level.
Reiki as Sacred Self-Care
In a world that constantly pulls us outward, Reiki offers a gentle return inward. It is an invitation to slow down, breathe, and reconnect with your true essence.
Whether experienced on its own or combined with massage, facial, or bodywork services, Reiki nurtures the subtle layers of the self—where true healing begins.
A Body in Knead has two Reiki masters, who are also licensed massage therapists, able to work with you. Book or inquire with Ariel and Pam to learn, try out, and heal with Reiki.
